Pick ONE New Habit at a time

1. Pick ONE new habit

While you're trying to build your practice habit with the #21daysofbellyance, don't try to add in other things!

One and done. For the next month you are working on the habit of dancing every day.

Not getting up earlier, or meditating, or adding to your nighttime routine (unless of course, you already have those habits).

One new habit at a time makes it WAY more likely that you'll succeed.

COmmit Yourself

For a lot of people, accountability is HUGE in making sure you stay on track.

In fact, committing to something is so powerful, that even if you sign a piece of paper on your desk with your goal? You're more likely to do it!

We've made this awesome image for you that you can share to social media to make the commitment publicly.

All you need to do is upload the photo you want to use, then drag it over that fluffy cloud!

It will auto insert and you can download your image to post on social!

And if you want to make it privately? Check out the goal section of the Dance Tracker, there's a place for that too!

2. Commit Yourself!

Set yourself up for success!

i.e. do all the prep work!

  • Go through and make sure you've got all your resources ready to go!
  • Pick a time of day where you can consistently find 10-15 minutes to practice!
  • Set yourself some reminders! On your phone, your calendar, whatever works for you to remember to hop into your practice!
  • Make sure you're following us on Instagram, and consider turning on notifications as your reminders!

Track your progress

You'll be adding your new dance habit for the next 21 days, and tracking your progress with our Dance Tracker!

If you haven't already signed up for our Dance Tracker, it'll be in your inbox shortly. Make sure to drag our emails to your primary inbox so you don't miss anything about our challenge!

Science shows that tracking things makes us more likely to continue doing them. You can track your progress using this tracker, or any other method you like, but TRACK IT! This will help keep you motivated through your practice

Do it with friends!

Everything is better with friends, and if you've got dance friends, invite them along!

They can be your accountability buddies! You can talk about the drills and the progress you're seeing as well.

Making it social tends to make it more fun, and the more fun it is? The easier it is to come back to day after day.

So make sure to tag a friend on our rules post and build your dance habits together!

Bonus Tip #6

Perfectionism

Don't let perfection be the enemy of the good.

There is no way to do it perfect.

Literally. There is no way to "perfectly" do this challenge.

Because the challenge is about the journey.

And the journey doesn't have a perfect outcome.

When you're posting on Insta, you're posting alongside a ton of other dancers who are ALSO on their own journeys, working towards their own goals.

You literally can't do it wrong. So if that perfectionist gremlin shows up? Tell it there's nothing to worry about. You're only comparing yourself to yourself, so you can only get better!

Bonus Tip #7!!!

Change the question

Whenever you find yourself going -

"This doesn't work for me"

or "Why can't I do this"

Try to be mindful, notice what you're thinking, and change the story.

Instead of - "This won't work for me" when we mention dancing for only 15 minutes a day

Think

"HOW can I make this work for me?"

Instead of "Why can't I do this" when you've missed a day or two of the challenge?

Think

"HOW can I make it easier to show up for myself"

By changing things to HOW questions instead of writing them off or beating ourselves up, we focus on the idea that there is in fact a solution.

You just have to find the way that works best for you. You're an experimenter, experimenting with your practice. Everything is a chance to learn what works for you.

Try it, track it, tweak it.

Your new motto!
